Sadly, we all age. I started to hit me the other day that as a 29 (39) year old woman who walks (drives) the streets of a conservative area of Atlanta – not Seventh Avenue – when does my enthusiastic adoption of the seasonal offerings of my design heroes make me look like an asshole?
Let’s look at Camouflage and the whole Military/Cargo trend that has taken over the length and breadth ready-to-wear markets since last season. Frankly, when I saw Kasia Strauss strut her skinny ass down the runway in Christophe Decarin’s Spring 2010 Balmain show, I saw my future…. and it had lots of pockets. Therefore, I quickly came to the conclusion that I could be easily categorized as the “artsy-eccentric” type and could therefore be exempt from any age related fashion limitations.
I immediately began my hunt for the perfect pair(s) of military inspired skinny cargos. I quickly made peace with the fact that I wasn’t getting the real Balmain version – as they are $2090.00, are sold out, and would use up my Botox allowance for like a year. I instinctively turned to my go-to online retailer, singer22, for their perfect on trend selection. Saavy shopper that I am, I quickly determined that the J Brand “Houlihan” was beyond perfect and at a much more reasonable $231.00, was a pant I could acquire, fairly guilt free, in more than one color. Everyone else in the world had apparently come to the same conclusion as retailers across the board were almost totally sold and had nothing more than an anorexic availability of sizes and colors. Thankfully, J Brand has caught up with the fact that the “Houlihan” is the perfect skinny cargo going into Fall/Winter 2010-2011 and stores are now stocked with an even bigger selection of colors than before. Thank God.
Conclusion – these pants rock and in them I feel like I can kick some real ass…. and so will you.
Now, go and get a pair. Semper Fi.
Big kiss.
