I have never met either of these women-one now dead and one alive – but they embody everything I love about fashion and why I decided to start “Dying Over It”.
They have taught me that fashion should empower, not enslave – and should be used to identify and celebrate one’s individuality. Sadly, however, it is frequently misunderstood as being a vehicle for those longing to “fit in” in a world of conformity. Could anyone ever mistake Daphne Guinness for another in her signature PVC pants and custom Natacha Marro platform Mary Janes? Or Isabella Blow in the unbelievable catalog of “hats” – actually wearable works of art that Philip Treacy made for her?
Let these women inspire you as they have me. Let your freak flag fly and don’t give a toss what your dorky neighbor, or for that matter, anyone else thinks.
Big Kiss.
